Ella and Stephen’s Stunning Winter Wedding Photography at Castle Tioram, Scotland

Just a short blog post today! I was digging out some photographs on the 2nd anniversary of this stunning winter wedding at Castle Tioram in Scotland and I realised that I hadn’t ever shared any photographs from it!

In the tiny village of Salen, in the heart of the Ardnamurchan peninsula on the west coast of Scotland, the ruins of Castle Tioram set the enchanting backdrop for the intimate winter wedding of Ella and Stephen. The couple exchanged their vows in a heartfelt humanist ceremony, conducted by Paula Wilkinson (the other half of our Bog Cotton Elopements clan), within the cozy confines of Tigh na Mara, a charming cottage (or lodge perhaps?) overlooking Loch Sunart.

It was a pretty chilly day, but it was also absolutely beautiful and Stephen and Ella made the brave, but definitely the right, decision to make the short drive to Castle Tioram to have a few photographs there in the setting winter sun. It is worth mentioning that we did this very quickly. As with most of my clients, Ella and Stephen chose me to photograph their wedding because I have a more relaxed documentary approach to the day. I like to capture moments, rather than artificially creating them, because it gives much more natural results, and it means that my couples don’t have to spend a long time posing, which is a good thing when it is below freezing!

I’ve been to Castle Tioram a few times, although for some reason it’s never been very sunny! You can see Kirsten and Kennan’s wonderful midwinter elopement here and Mario and Sabine’s ‘summer’ wedding at Castle Tioram here.
