Photographing a wedding at Springkell, down in the Scottish borders near Lockerbie, is always a great experience and I have lost count of the number of weddings I have had the pleasure pf photographing there.

Set amidst the elegant Palladian mansion of Springkell, Carla and Joe fully embraced the season (which is possibly my favourite for wedding photography) with an autumn-themed wedding that featured golden leaves and pumpkins a-plenty. Rich, earthy tones adorned the venue, from the rustic centrepieces on the tables to the warm-coloured flowers that complemented Carla’s bouquet.

As a documentary style wedding photographer I am always trying to capture the genuine emotions of the day, and there were certainly plenty of beautiful moments to capture. Being there when Carla’s father saw her for the first time was such an emotional moment to be able to photograph and I was pleased to be able to capture it for them. The whole day was like this and it felt like a real privilege to be able to witness it.

Meetings used to always be in-person but one of the accidental benefits of Covid is that everyone is now happy to do it via video these days, which means less office-tidying for me and more time for you.

I had the usual meeting with Carla and Joe the week prior to their wedding and so I already knew that Joe wasn’t too fond of posing for pictures. As I say to all my clients, I would really try and not to worry about this (that’s easier said than done – I know). If you aren’t comfortable in front of the camera it’s always absolutely fine by me and I just adapt my shooting style to be even more relaxed than usual. Joe did great in the end anyway 🙂
