Eloping in Glencoe at Sunset: A Romantic Highland Adventure

Victoria and Sauli travelled all the way from Finland to the heart of the Scottish Highlands for their elopement — and what a day they chose. Glencoe is always dramatic, always wild, but on this particular spring evening, it was unexpectedly warm and bathed in golden sunshine. It felt like the landscape had softened, just for them.

Their ceremony took place in the forest at Glencoe Lochan — not on the main path, but tucked away in a quieter spot overlooking the lochan, where the trees offered both shelter and serenity. The light during the ceremony was nothing short of magical. As it streamed through the trees, it created a dappled glow that felt sacred and peaceful, as though nature itself had paused to bear witness.

I was lucky to be working alongside my good friend and incredible celebrant Paula — together we’re known as Bog Cotton Scottish Elopements, and this is exactly the kind of day we love to create: intimate, beautiful, and deeply personal.

After the ceremony, we headed into the mountains for a relaxed adventure session. Glencoe never disappoints, but in this light — and with such an easygoing, joyful couple — it felt extra special. We stopped at some of my favourite hidden spots along the valley, places that offer that real sense of Highland drama without the crowds. One of the highlights for Victoria and Pauli was capturing some portraits with the iconic Buachaille Etive Mòr in the background — a must if you’re eloping in Glencoe and want to remember just how awe-inspiring this place can be.

It was a day full of laughter, sunshine, and genuine connection. Victoria and Sauli were an absolute dream to photograph — kind, adventurous, and just so happy to be here together in this landscape. I’d do it all again tomorrow without hesitation.

By the way, did you notice the unusual leather strap Victoria and Sauli used for their traditional Scottish handfasting ceremony? Rather than using the typical lengths of tartan fabric they used something even more heartfelt – their dog’s lead. They had their heart set upon bring their beloved pooch Paul Newman to Scotland to be at their wedding but, alas, bureaucracy beat them and wee Pauli had to remain at home in Finland. Still, he was definitely included in the big way and we were all thinking of him.

Thinking of eloping in Glencoe? I’d love to help you plan a relaxed, beautiful day like this one. Get in touch and let’s start the adventure.

UPDATE:

I’ve just received this really lovely review from Victoria and Sauli!

While looking for a country for our elopement we found Trevor from Bog Cotton Scottish Elopements and we were straight away impressed by his work and reviews on the site. Communication with Trevor was always top notch; he was quick to reply and was very clear and informative with his answers. We always felt that our needs and wishes were heard and Trevor always had great suggestions when we were in doubt.

On the big day he made us feel at ease, he was professional and laid back with a great sense of humour. Trevor’s and his Bog Cotton associate’s teamwork was seamless and they made the elopement feel relaxed and intimate.

The camera shy bride was worried how the pictures would come out, but Trevor was confident in his abilities, as he should be. The photos turned out better than we could have ever imagined and more. Now we have all the beautiful pictures to reminisce about our special day!

We want to thank Trevor for helping us make the elopement of our dreams possible! ♥
