A Fun Wedding at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow
With seven bridesmaids at Erin and Murray’s wedding at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow I knew that the day would be anything but dull, and I wasn’t disappointed. Erin’s parent’s house in Bearsden had a brilliant party vibe when I arrived there bright and early to start taking pictures of everyone before the wedding. It was an extremely sunny day in March and everyones spirits were high – I even got to try my very first Tangy Toms, the taste of which stayed with me throughout the day unfortunately… I apologise in advance for the large number of photographs. It was such a great day that I had real trouble picking out the best ones for the blog.
As Erin had booked a single vintage VW minibus for her wedding the bridesmaids were ferried to the Glasgow University Chapel nice and early which meant that I could capture a few shots of them there in the sunshine when we had some spare time before Erin and her father arrived. I have lost count of the number of times I have worked at the University (I had already been there that week in fact, to photograph my first Christening) but I always love returning each time. As at Erin and Murray’s wedding it offers so much scope for photographs and, if your reception is in the city centre, the space and greenery can add a useful extra dimension to your photographs. At today’s wedding we managed to cover almost all of the important family photographs and then also spent a short time in the area around the cloisters taking a few pictures.
Erin and Murray chose to have their wedding reception at the Old Fruitmarket in the Merchant City area of Glasgow. The Old Fruitmarket is such a cool place for a wedding reception! I had worked there many times, photographing burlesque and cabaret shows for friends, but this was my first wedding there. It is, literally, the old fruit market and is essentially a vast snippet of Glasgow life in the 1800s complete with old original signage, cast iron balconies and stone floor. They have done a very interesting job of the lighting which, I think, gives it a completely unique feel and the stage at the rear was ideal for wedding band megastars Ernest. I can’t wait to go back!
