Woodland Elopement at the Hermitage Dunkeld

Just a tiny blog post today, but that’s quite fitting as Freya and Gordon’s woodland elopement at the Hermitage, Dunkeld involved just the two of them, alongside at least one red squirrel and some amazing National Trust for Scotland staff of course.

The Hermitage is a beautiful piece of forest in the Scottish county of Perthshire and is the perfect place for a woodland elopement. I have actually stopped there countless times on the way further north to walk my dog and have a bite to eat. It is a small but extremely peaceful and green part of the world and I always feel restored after being in there for even just half an hour.

Once you’ve walked a few minutes towards the Hermitage itself (there did used to be an actual hermit living there apparently) through the ancient Douglas Fir trees you will arrive at the Black Linn Falls which thunder past Ossian’s hall – a precariously situated viewpoint perched above the river. It is possible to get married in the small hall itself (be careful though – it’s very noisy!) but Freya and Gordon had decided to exchange their wedding vows outside in the nature, right by the river’s edge in the gentle dappled sunshine.

After a few pictures on the stone bridge above the falls we nipped into the nearby village of Dunkeld to try and get some photographs in the narrow streets there but, as it was a sunny Saturday, it was much too busy. We did still manage to make some nice photographs down by the river’s edge where we had the place almost to ourselves.

Freya and Gordon’s Woodland Elopement at the Hermitage Dunkeld was one of the most relaxing and romantic elopements I’ve had the pleasure of photographing, helped in no small part by the magical forest setting. If you are thinking of an elopement or tiny wedding in amongst the trees and wildlife at the Hermitage please do let me know and I would love to hear about your plans.

For a slightly larger, but just as beautiful, woodland wedding why not take a look at Lesley and David’s photographs. They were married in Larachmhor Gardens near Arisaig and you can read all about their wedding here.
