Vintage Wedding at the Lodge on Loch Goil

I can think of a few wedding venues that I really look forward to visiting and the Lodge on Loch Goil has to be up there with the best of them. A beautiful private lodge perched on the edge of the seemingly continually tranquil Loch Goil with amazing views in every direction. I personally think it is a wedding photographer’s dream and I have enjoyed every one of the many weddings I have photographed there immensely.  It has lovely gardens which are very well maintained (I’ve noticed that gardeners seem to be one of the first things to go when a hotel makes cut-backs sadly, and there are so many prestigious venues that just have a lawn with no plants or flowers), loads of space and just a really nice atmosphere. The bedrooms are quite large and I am used to walking into a serene and spacious room to take pictures of the preparations – not today though as Donna had no less than eight bridesmaids (a personal record for me) who were all getting ready, in the vintage style that Donna had picked, at the same time. As well as all of the visual advantages to photographing a picturesque vintage wedding at the Lodge on Loch Goil I would have to say that Donna and Thomas were a dream to work with. They had no real requirements, other than that they wanted the photography to capture as much as possible with as little interference as possible, and I was left to get on with things as I saw fit. There were no huge lists of family pictures, no panicking about whether or not I would get a picture of the bride and her Dad, just a relaxed and laid back approach and I loved it!

Donna and Thomas took full advantage of the sunny weather and had their civil ceremony down by the shores of the loch underneath a huge old beech tree. There was a lovely gentle breeze to keep the midges at bay and it was just perfect. The marriage schedule was signed in the wonderful treehouse and, after that, the rest of the day was spent milling around outside in the sunshine.
