On a beautifully sunny day at the end of August I headed south to Ayrshire for Alison and Carlo’s wedding at Dumfries House. I had never been to Dumfries House before (I am not sure that they do very many weddings) but it is an amazing place and is certainly somewhere I would look forward to going back to again in the future.  It was built originally for the Earl of Dumfries and is actually in Cumnock, which is nowhere near the town of Dumfries. As I am still working through a few albums designs that need to be done in time for Christmas I won’t write too much here but Alison encouraged my laziness by emailing me a few bits and pieces of her own to include. I will let the photographs speak for themselves.

“The day was perfect and, contrary to what other married couples said to us, it didn’t fly by and we both enjoyed every second and lapped it up. The singing waiters were definitely a highlight for the guests as we hadn’t told anyone except yourself and the wedding co-ordinator and those are some of my favourite photos as you see how much everyone enjoyed it including the conga! They were hired from The Magic Agency. I did feel a bit sorry for them as people thought they were waiters and kept asking them questions but they coped! Our band was The Little Symphonies and we thought they were amazing.

But just to say. I have never felt so chilled out in my life and this was down to everyone that had a part to play in the day including yourself. It was just perfect. The staff at Dumfries House were fantastic and made us feel like royalty. We’re still getting thank you cards from guests to say how much they enjoyed the day and we feel we organised the best wedding we possibly could! I don’t think it will be forgotten quickly. All the planning, hours making bits and bobs and spending many an evening drinking fizz to save up the corks for the place names was worth it!” (Scroll to the end to see a list of the suppliers that Alison and Carlo used)

Flowers were by 27 at Alloway and I was so pleased with the bouquets and buttonholes.
My mum did the centrepieces as we tried to do as much as possible ourselves.
The cake was by Top Tier cakes but they have just changed management. It used to be my Aunty Ev’s cake shop. She built up the business from her kitchen to a designer cake shop and cup cake shop in merchant city.
The piper was my Uncle Rob. (amazing, by the way!)
My dress was from Etiquette in Uddingston who were so lovely and helpful.
Bridesmaids dresses were made by my Aunty Shirley.
Hair was by Rainbow Room (Ayr)
Make up by Alex Henderson – she had done my sister’s make up before and a friend’s wedding and she is amazing!

[…] At weddings like Kevin and Stacy’s I am always excited to see that all the elements for a great day have fallen into place. Sometimes you get a great venue, but the weather is terrible. Other times you get great weather but you are in a city centre hotel and everything is indoors. Today the weather was beautiful and was only surpassed by the magnificence of the location – Dumfries House, a short distance from Glasgow in Ayrshire. The house itself is tremendous and is light and airy and offers lots of opportunity for wedding photography. The outside is even better with very well maintained gardens and a new water sculpture by artist William Pye. Stacy and Kevin made the most of all of these elements by having their relaxed humanist wedding ceremony outside and then, afterwards, everyone stayed outside and enjoyed one of the best summer days we had all year. Incidentally, the last time I visited Dumfries House, back in 2013, the weather was exactly the same at Alison and Carlo’s wedding. Maybe it has something to do with the Ayrshire weather patterns https://www.silverphotography.co.uk/dumfries-house-wedding-alison-carlo/ […]
