Cow Shed Wedding in Crail – Mairi and Scott
Just so that you don’t think that all I photograph are little elopements I am going to share some of my bigger weddings of 2019 for a while – there have been some crackers, including Mairi and Scott’s Cow Shed wedding back in September.
On my first visit to Crail since 2018 when I photographed Simon and Fiona’s wonderful Crail Town Hall wedding I, yet again, found myself driving to Fife in glorious sunshine. Is it always sunny up there? After picking up some supplies at Penman’s butchers on the high street I continued right through Crail and out into the open farmland beyond where finally – after years of hearing about this wonderful wedding venue but never getting to visit – I arrived at the Cow Shed. As soon as I parked my car I knew that it was going to be a great place to work.
The Cow Shed is a series of old stone barns built around a central courtyard with uninterrupted views all around and made wonderful blank canvas for Mairi and Scott’s wedding vision. They had worked with Mobile Lighting and Bar Hire Scotland and Florist Lyn Wilson to transform the empty barns into a brilliantly fun and romantic space.
As Mairi and Scott were both getting ready in neighbouring cottages right next door to the Cow Shed I was able to flit between them both and catch pictures of both the bride and the groom squads getting ready which is always fun. The atmosphere is always completely different and gives me a rare insight into how the day is unfolding. As a bonus I also got to hang out with their beautiful dog Shadow and helped make sure that he was wearing the correct bow tie for the day. More and more of my clients are including their dogs on their wedding days and that can only be a good thing as far as I am concerned.
After the ceremony by Humanist celebrant Stewart Struthers we all went outside into the sunshine for drinks which gave me a great opportunity to grab some photographs of all the guests mingling and having a great time. We decided to photograph just a quick couples shoot of Mairi and Scott before dinner as is was quite breezy and the light was very harsh in the afternoon. Instead we decided to wait until just before sunset to take more pictures. It turned out to be a great decision as the light around 7pm was perfect – very warm and soft and ideal for the kind of relaxed but romantic photographs that I had envisioned.
After a tasty barbecue and some (long) speeches Glasgow based band Diego started to play and I finished my day by photographing a few ceilidh dances with their uniquely modern twist.
Thank you Mairi and Scott for letting me share your wedding (and for feeding me well on your wedding day 🙂 ). If you are planning your own Cow Shed wedding, or a wedding anywhere in Scotland, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
