Although this area of South America receives very little rain, it does rain sometimes. And when it does, it rains a lot. This picture was taken in the high plains of the Parque Nacional de los Cardones (cardon is what the Argentinians call the type of cactus that grows here).
I have other photographs that show it in the full sun but I was determined to visit again to see what it looked like in bad weather. I was fascinated by the way that seemingly endless spread of cacti reached so far into the misty desert that they appeared to go on for ever. It was very beautiful, even though the conditions were terrible.
